Relationships & Research

Weekly Investment Update | By Brian Schreiner

It has been a genuine pleasure connecting with so many of you these past few weeks. I look forward to every call and meeting. Your diverse circumstances, experiences, and unique personalities make every interaction fascinating.

Two weeks ago, I had a memorable call with client named Richard, a technology engineer from New Jersey who designs thermal cooling systems for telecom equipment. He has a high degree of intellectual curiosity and a depth of knowledge and experience that goes well beyond his work.

Richard mentioned he was also a musician in a band, which I never would have guessed, but what really shocked me was that, during our conversation, completely out of the blue, he started singing! And after a good twenty seconds, he casually returned to telling me about a past investment. It was at that point that I had to interrupt him because I had completely lost track of what he was saying! I couldn’t get over the fact that he was signing to me over the phone. Then it struck me that in my 25 years as an Investment Advisor, I had never before had a client sing to me.

There are many other stories I could share, just from the past few weeks. All of our conversations are of real interest to me because I know the information you share is important to you and your family. And it’s an important part of our business relationship because it helps me understand your unique personal and financial situation.

I will never forget something my Father told me as a teenager. It has stuck with me, not just because it’s profound, but because I've come to understand its fundamental truth: "Nothing matters more in life than relationships."

In our recent conversations, several of you have asked about the research behind our investment strategies. I’m working on a sourcebook that I can share with a list of our go-to resources for investment research, focusing on those that produce publicly available content.

For those of you who monitor the financial markets and follow investment commentators and analysts, I think you’ll find the sourcebook valuable. If you’d like a copy, email me. I’ll send you a copy when it’s ready.

Another way you can keep up with our investment research we rely on is to read this blog. Be sure to check out the section below with the heading, “Interesting things I came across this week…”

Finally, the most in depth piece we publish is our Quarterly Investment Outlook. We update the Outlook every three months, in early January, April, July and October. Inside you’ll find a brief overview of current economic conditions and a detailed discussion of how we’re investing for our clients complete with fundamental, technical and thematic views on each asset class.

The outlook is sent directly to every client and it’s available here for anyone to download.

Thanks for reading this week. If you have any questions or would like to set up a call or meeting, please use the link below. We look forward to talking to you soon! α
